"In School" Art Experience at Boyd Elementary

Have you ever made a collage and gotten glue all over your fingers? Have you ever painted with watercolors and the paint dried too quick? When I think back to my elementary school days, that was the norm. I, like many of you, was fortunate to have an art program in my school. Today, in our public school system, so many programs have been eliminated and art and music have been for the most part eliminated. This week, for the third year, Fondren Renaissance Foundation is having its "in school" art experience for all of the fourth graders at Boyd Elementary School. We are so fortunate to have artists Roz Roy and Natalie Ray leading this four day experience for the students. Each day they are exploring a different type of artistic expression. This year the focus is on paper collage and watercolor techniques. The fourth graders will be displaying their works for the rest of the school to view and 20 promising young "artists" will be offered a full scholarship to attend the Summer Art Camp at The Cedars. Also underwritten by the Foundation, this summer camp was started last year for deserving and promising young artists who do not have access to arts in their school. Art created during the Boyd School "Arts Experience" and the "Summer Art Camp at The Cedars" will be part of the upcoming Fall Art Show at The Cedars. These activities, along with the third and fifth graders of Boyd Elementary School receiving books for their summer reading programs, are just a few ways that your contributions to the Foundation are making a difference in the community and the lives of tomorrow's leaders. On behalf of the students, thank you!
