Built around 1840, The Cedars is Jackson’s oldest surviving residential structure.  Once threatened by multi-family development, the house and property were spared through the coordinated efforts of Fondren Renaissance Foundation, SOFO, other area residents and community groups, corporate entities, and the Mississippi Arts Commission. The campaign known as “Save the Cedars” did just that by raising enough money to purchase and renovate The Cedars in 2003.

Today, this two-acre retreat dotted with majestic cedar, oak, and magnolia trees provides the perfect intimate setting for weddings and receptions. The Viking donated commercial kitchen allows caterers convenient, on-site food preparation and staging. The open floor plan easily accommodates groups of various sizes. This versatility makes The Cedars the ideal location for a party of 500 or a meeting of 20.

The Cedars is also home to various cultural and community events throughout the year as Fondren Renaissance Foundation sponsors “Four Seasons of The Cedars” and other top-notch art shows; the annual Independence Day Celebration and Picnic; and Symphony at Sunset with the full Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.  All of these events are open and free to the public so everyone may enjoy the tranquility of this retreat in the heart of an urban environment.

The charming and historic Cedars at 4145 Old Canton Road, owned and operated  by the Fondren Renaissance Foundation, is one of Jackson’s most popular spots for wedding receptions, engagement parties, business meetings and corporate retreats.

The Cedars can be reserved for private functions by calling (601) 366-5552. Following are the standard rental fees for use of the facility:

Weekend Rental – All weekend functions are $1,750. Only one booking is permitted per weekend, so the lessee may have access to the facility from 12 Noon on Friday through Sunday evening.

Less than 25 attending - $500*
More than 25, but less than 75 attending - $750*
More than 75 attending - $1,000*

*All fees require a $250 refundable damage deposit
All non-profit organizations are offered at a discounted rate – please inquire.

Parties at The Cedars are asked to cease by 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings and by 10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday evenings out of respect for our neighbors.  All outdoor amplified music must cease by 9 p.m..  The Cedars is a non-smoking facility.
